Q    Where do I check out materials?

A     Materials are checked out at the circulation desk on level 1 of the library in Columbus Hall (CO).

Q    How do I check out materials?

A You must be a currently registered student or current employee of the college. Present a Columbus State Community College I.D. card or other valid form of picture I.D. such as a state driver's license, state I.D. card, passport, etc., at the circulation desk each time materials are borrowed.

Q    What are reserve materials?

A Reserve materials are headphones, anatomy models and some course textbooks. These items are kept behind the Circulation desk. You can only check out 2 reserve materials at a time. These materials are checked out for two hours, and they have to stay in the library.

Q    How do I Use Reserve Materials?

A Reserve materials may be checked out for two hours, but these items must be used within the library. The library has equipment to allow the use of audiovisual materials within the building. Reserve items not returned on time are subject to a $1.00 per hour late fine. Any reserve item not returned the same day they were checked out are subject to a $50.00 fine.

Q    How many items can I check out?

A You can check out a total of 50 items at a time (books and/or audio-visual).

Q    How long may I keep checked out materials?

AThese are the standard loan periods for materials borrowed from the Columbus State Library, OhioLINK and SearchOhio. Faculty and staff often enjoy extended loan periods for Columbus State items. Loan periods for items with special status may differ, such as course reserves.

Q    What if I lost a book?

ACSCC Library will take replacement copies of books lost or damaged that meet the following conditions:
  • Same edition or newer
  • Same ISBN number
  • New or Like New Condition
  • If the original book was in hardcover, the replacement book should be in hardcover as well.
The Library cannot accept replacements that have pages torn out, moderately/heavily marked up or highlighted pages, or coffee/dirt stained pages.

If there are any questions, check with the Circulation Supervisor.

Q    What are the overdue fines?

ACSCC Library Items not returned on time are subject to a fine of 50 cents per day, per item, to a maximum amount of $15 per item, except for OhioLINK and SearchOhio items. OhioLINK items that are returned 30 days beyond the due date will carry a maximum fine of $50. SearchOhio items returned late will be fined a maximum amount of $25 per item. Fines for Course Reserves items are $1.00 per hour. Fines for headphones are 25 cents per hour. All borrowers are responsible for lost or damaged items. Items long overdue are presumed lost and the borrower will be billed for the replacement cost and a processing fee.

Q    How do I pay library fines?

  • Columbus Campus: fines can be paid by cash, check or money order at the circulation desk.
  • Delaware Campus: fines can be paid by check or money order only at the Learning Center (MO 149).

Q    What if the library does not have the materials I need?

A Columbus State Community College is a member of OhioLINK, a state wide consortium of 121 private and public libraries at universities and colleges in the state of Ohio. CSCC students, faculty, and staff may request items from these institutions from OhioLINK, which will deliver those items to CSCC.

 

Columbus State Community College has partnered with SearchOhio to provide access to materials from forty public libraries in the state of Ohio, including CML. Items can be searched and requested at the SearchOhio catalog.

 

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service that allows current students, faculty and staff at Columbus State to borrow books from other library systems when said item could not be found in our library's collection, OhioLINK, or SearchOhio. Please fill out the ILL Request Form, or ask for a paper form from any library service desk.

Q    How do I renew /check on Items?

AUsing My Account, you can:
  • Check the status of your Library circulation record.
  • See how many items you have checked out and when they are due back.
  • Renew items (two renewals per print item are permitted unless another patron has requested the item).
  • Check the status of your OhioLINK requests:
    • Requested = waiting to be shipped
    • In Transit = shipped from lending library
    • Received = here at Columbus State Library and ready to be picked up at the Circulation Desk
 

My Account

My Account is where you can do the following:

  • Request CSLink items to be held;
  • See the status of requested materials from all libraries;
  • See when checked out materials are due;
  • Renew books online that are close to their renewal date.  Some may not renew on the date they are due or if another person has requested that particular title.

Just log in with your name and your Cougar ID number.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Requests

When you can't locate your article in our databases, or a book in any of our libraries' catalogs, a reference librarian can help you check whether an interlibrary loan (ILL) is the only way to get the item you need. To request a book outside of the library catalog, OhioLINK, and SearchOhio, please fill out the ILL Request Form, or ask for a paper form from any library service desk.
