OhioLINK has negotiated Open Access Publishing deals for member institutions, Cambridge Read and Publish, Wiley Hybrid Open Access Publishing, and IOP Journals Open Access Publishing.
OhioLINK is embarking upon an agreement with Cambridge University Press with two major benefits for students and faculty at institutions of higher education in Ohio. Starting January 1, 2022, students, faculty, and staff at most OhioLINK member institutions will have access to current articles published in all 400+ journals published by Cambridge University Press. An important new component of this agreement is the ability for authors at OhioLINK member institutions to publish open access (OA) journal articles at Cambridge University Press-published journals at no additional charge to either the author or the institution.
Open access (OA) is a way to publish that makes content freely available to read with no subscription or access fees, as well as licensing the work to allow for reuse.
In order to be eligible to publish open access at no cost in a Cambridge journal under this deal, the corresponding author of the article must be affiliated with an institution that subscribes to OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Center (EJC), such as CSCC. There is no limit on the number times an author can request open access funding under this agreement.
The Corresponding Author is the person who handles the manuscript and correspondence during the publication process, including approving the article proofs. In addition, the Corresponding Author also acts as the point of contact for any inquiries (including those relating to the integrity of the work) after the paper is published. Corresponding authors identify their institutional affiliation at the time of submitting their article. Cambridge also uses institution email domains to confirm affiliations for their Read & Publish deals.
Access to the publishing benefits begins on January 1, 2022, and continues through December 31, 2024.
Most journals published by Cambridge University Press offer the option to publish an article as open access. When a corresponding author's article has been approved for publication in a Cambridge journal that offers an open access publishing option, they are offered the option to publish their article as open access.

In addition to OhioLINK member institutions' current access to all Wiley journal titles, OhioLINK has negotiated an upgraded agreement with Wiley that offers open access publishing benefits for authors at no cost.
Starting in March 2022, students, faculty, and staff at most OhioLINK member institutions now have the ability to publish open access (OA) journal articles in 1,400 hybrid journals published by Wiley at no additional cost to either the author or the institution. Fully open access journals are not eligible for the open access publishing benefits under this deal.
Open Access (OA) is a way to publish that makes content freely available with no subscription or access fees. Open access often also includes licensing the work to allow for reuse. OhioLINK's agreement with Wiley gives member authors and institutions the open access option without paying any additional fees.
OhioLINK's open access deal with Wiley applies only to articles published in their 1,400 hybrid open access journals. "Hybrid" means that the journal publishes articles that are available both by subscription and through open access.
In order to be eligible to publish open access at no cost in a Wiley hybrid journal under this deal, the corresponding author of the article must be affiliated with an institution that subscribes to OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Center (EJC), such as CSCC. There is no limit on the number times an author can request open access funding under this agreement.

The Library Advisory Council (LAC) has approved a cost-neutral upgrade with the Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing, which covers physics, materials science, biosciences, astronomy and astrophysics, environmental sciences, and mathematics.
The upgrade, starting January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025, expands Electronic Journal Center (EJC) access to 72 IOP journals, adding open-access publishing benefits for authors.
Open access (OA) is a way to publish that makes content freely available to read with no subscription or access fees, as well as licensing the work to allow for reuse. OhioLINK's agreement with IOP applies to articles in either fully open access journals or hybrid open access journals. IOP uses the term "transformative agreements" to refer to its agreements that allow for open access publishing. Articles published as open access under this agreement will use a CC-BY 4.0 license.
In order to be eligible to publish open access at no cost in an Institute of Physics journal under this deal, the corresponding author of the article (see below for definition) must be affiliated with an institution that participates in OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Center (EJC). There is no limit on the number times an author can request open access funding under this agreement.
The corresponding author is the author who submits the manuscript and is responsible for communicating with the journal during the submission, peer review, and publication process. Eligibility for open access publishing under OhioLINK's agreement with IOP (IOP calls this a "transformative agreement") is based on the corresponding author's affiliation at the time of acceptance.
Access to no-APC open access publishing begins on January 1, 2023, and continues through December 31, 2025, all articles accepted for publication during this time may be published open access.
When a corresponding author submits their article with an IOP journal, they are asked to identify their institution affiliation. If they are affiliated with a participating OhioLINK member institution, Institute of Physics identifies them as eligible for open access publishing under this agreement and sends the Corresponding Author an email.
Corresponding authors will be contacted by IOP to confirm that they would like to publish their article as open access near the time of acceptance. Authors may choose to opt out and instead publish their articles behind a paywall. There is no cost to the author (or to their institution) to publish their article as open access under this agreement.
