Sculpture Since 1945 by Commissioned by the Ohio Percent for Art program, as part of the academic center C & D construction, Vault is an alignment of three steel and black granite sculptures located on Mt. Vernon Avenue. The piece transforms into a 30-feet tall vaulted red steel sculpture located across the street off of Cleveland Avenue.
Vault was completed in 2005 by David Barr and represents "energetic movement and an aesthetic linkage connecting campus buildings, walkways and streets." source

David Barr was an American sculptor and painter from Detroit, MI. Born in 1939, Barr is an internationally known artists and has created many installations in natural settings. Vault took over a year to complete. His sculptures represent mathematics, geography and nature, and otherwise known as "geo-structures."
Barr is a graduate of Wayne State University and recipient of the WSU Distinguished Alumni Award. In 1995 he founded the Michigan Legacy Art Park, and has pieces at the Chrysler World Headquarters, Flint's Bishop Airport, the Detroit Zoo, the State of Michigan Historical Museum and the Meadowbrook Festival Grounds. source
