Still Learning to Paint
Daryl L. Brown - September 2017 Exhibit
Yup, I'm an older person and I'm still learning to paint.
I enjoy doodling and painting. I just love color! You'd think I'd know how to do this by now, but it's a continual learning process and I'm still a beginner.
I've been scribbling, doodling, and painting for pleasure for many years. I've mostly played in watercolor but I've begun to dabble in other mediums -- oil paints, encaustic (hot wax), and in digital art and photography apps. You'll see examples of all these in this exhibit. My ideas often come from my imagination and sometimes I paint what I see.
From time-to-time, I take classes with local artists to learn more about techniques, color, and design. I've found my best teachers at The Cultural Arts Center and in several local community centers.
I have been learning to paint with oil paints and have taken several classes with talented, local artist and teacher, Joseph Lombardo. His influence shows up in the series of small portraits of people I meet that are looser in style and colorful.
I am also a reference librarian in Columbus State's Library and can be found at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor of Columbus Hall.
