As one of the largest and most diverse community colleges in Ohio, Columbus State plays a pivotal role in the civic life of Central Ohio. We take this responsibility seriously. As a result, we are building on our student democratic engagement practices in a coordinated, organized, and impactful way across our entire institution.
In 2020 Columbus State joined the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) initiative through the Institute for Democracy and Higher Education at Tufts University to learn more about our students’ voting registration and participation rates. This data helps us measure and improve students' voting engagement.
Columbus State was awarded the All-In Challenge Bronze Seal for a voting rate of 50-59% in the 2020 Presidential Election. The All-In Campus Democracy Challenge aims to recognize and encourage colleges, universities, and students for their efforts to increase student voting rates. Columbus State is dedicated to increasing student engagement in the democratic process and encouraging students to make positive impacts on their communities.
