English Department Writing Repository: Writing Centers/Labs

Supplemental Materials for Columbus State's Composition Courses

Overview

Writing Centers/Labs

The Writing Centers/Labs tab includes links to tips and tools addressing local and global concerns around writing from reputable institutions, as well as materials on the tutoring services available at our own Columbus State Writing Centers. If interested in using any of the sources provided in the Writing Repository, please download documents and/or copy links and add them to your Blackboard course shells. Students should not be given direct access to this instructor-facing Lib Guide. Thank you.

Columbus State Writing Centers

The Writing Centers, located in Columbus, Delaware, and Dublin, are the primary tutoring source for most English classes and other college-level courses that require writing and reading. Our services are available to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Columbus community.

We can help with any stage of the writing process, from generating ideas to revising and polishing. We can also provide strategies for engaged reading, reading comprehension, and responding to readings. We cannot, however, write papers, proofread, or discuss grades.

Our Learning Support Specialists and Academic Support Leads can assist with:

  • Essay Assignments
  • Research Projects
  • Reading Responses
  • Business Letters
  • Lab Reports
  • Works Cited / Reference
  • Personal Correspondence / Appeals
  • Scholarship Applications
  • Personal Writing / Creative Writing

Please check our webpage for hours of service for the current semester: https://www.cscc.edu/academics/departments/english/writing-center.shtml.

For additional information and resources on the Writing Center, please visit the Writing Center Repository.

Purdue Online Writing Lab

Purdue Online Writing Lab provides formatting instructions, videos, and exercises on how to cite sources in MLA, APA, and Chicago. The cite is not necessarily intuitive, but for what it delivers, it is worth walking your students through how to use the cite to avoid plagiarism.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Writing Center provides a Tips and Tools page to assist with suggestions on (1) Writing the Paper, (2) Citation, Style, and Sentence Level Concerns, (3) Specific Writing Assignments or Contexts, and (4) Writing for Specific Fields.
