Recommended Databases

Below are the most popular databases for researching topics in nursing and allied health. Searching multiple databases will help create a well-rounded body of research. Try limiting the publication date to ensure that you see up-to-date results.

APA PsycINFO
Abstracts and citations for psychological, social, behavioral, and health sciences.
CINAHL Plus with Full Text
The Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature contains abstracts, and full text. You can search all titles or only the core nursing journals. Use the Advanced Search to limit to specific Clinical Queries or Evidence-Based Practice, Author is Nurse, etc.
Cochrane Library
A collection of databases that contain high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making.
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
Index, abstracts, and full text focusing particularly on nursing and allied health.
MEDLINE with Full Text
A comprehensive index providing full text for more than 1,370 medical journals.

CINAHL Quick Guide

The Database Doesn't Have Full Text for My Article. Now What?

During your search, you may encounter times when the full text (PDF or HTML) of an article is not available in the database. Follow these steps to see how you may locate an electronic or print version of your article:

If PDF and HTML full text are unavailable, click in certain databases to locate print copies in Columbus State's library or electronic copies in another database, such as the Electronic Journal Center.
If you know the name of the journal in which the article appears, search the eResource Lookup to see if the journal is available online in one of the research databases.
If the article is not available at Columbus State's library or electronically through the research databases, search the OhioLINK catalog for print holdings at nearby college or university libraries.
