A History of American Literature

Covers a full range of fiction, poetry, drama and non-fiction incorporated into the literary canon, in addition to oral literature, folktales, spirituals, etc. Writing is placed in the context of American social and cultural history both before and after the formation of the United States.
Contemporary American Literature: 1945-Present

Focuses on a variety of topics, from the violence of war and the struggle for civil rights to the social impact of technology and the moral significance of money. Provides information on late-20th century writers; the 1950s, '60s, and beyond; contemporary American poetry; new voices; and the postmodern movement.
The Cambridge Companion to American Modernism

Provides an overview of American literary modernism from 1890 to 1939. Offers critical overviews of the major genres, literary culture, and social contexts. Covers nationalism, race, gender and the impact of music and visual arts on literary modernism, as well as overviews of the achievements of American modernism in fiction, poetry and drama.
Twayne Companion to Contemporary Literature in English

*Reference Item. Critical examinations of 101 writers who were working or influencing the work of other writers during the past quarter of a century who haven't been widely written about elsewhere. Presents biographies, context-setting discussions, and critical interpretations. Other features include a chronology of major publications and key literary facts since 1975.
Twentieth-Century American Literature

*Reference item. Provides the most representative essays and reviews of the modern era from a variety of sources--magazines, scholarly journals, and book-length studies. Each entry contains a brief biography of the author.
