What is the Magic Fish About?

The Magic Fish is an award-winning graphic novel that focuses on Tien, a teenager who struggles with finding the right words to tell his Vietnamese immigrant parents that he’s gay. The fairy tales Tien reads with his mother embody the power of stories to create connection, empathy, and growth.

How do I Participate?

The library will give you a free copy of the print or the Kindle ebook version of the Magic Fish to keep! You can also pick up a goodie bag with a fun take and make craft at either the Columbus or Delaware campus libraries.

Quantities of the book are limited, and are first come first served. Once copies run out we will do our best to ensure every interested student has a copy of the book through the Columbus State library or one of our library partners.

Register for either the in-person or the virtual book group by heading over to the Cougar Connect event page and letting us know which book format you require. Once we receive your registration and desired book format the library will email you with instructions on your book pickup.

We look forward to hearing from you and getting your thoughts on the book!

The virtual discussion through Zoom will be on March 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Please read the book before the meeting and be prepared to discuss the book.
