The Columbus State Gospel Vocal Ensemble (GVE), under the direction of Dr. Emma L. Easton since 2006, has appeared in numerous prestigious venues in Ohio, including the Statehouse, the Rhodes Tower, Lincoln Theater, and more. In addition to performing for large events, they have opened for notables such as the late social rights activist/comedian Dick Gregory; the media mogul Cathy Hughes, Dr. Cornel West, Political Strategist Donna Brazile, actor Danny Glover, and shared the stage with some of gospel’s finest, including Men of God’s Heart and Stellar Award winners Shekinah Glory. They also shared a residency and performance with Deanna Martin (daughter of the late legendary entertainer Dean Martin). GVE made history at Columbus State in 2008 by releasing, "The Hope Project" — the very first gospel CD ever-produced at the college. Since that time, the Ensemble has released several recordings, videos, and a cookbook. In 2021, GVE celebrated their 15th anniversary under the direction of Dr. Emma L. Easton, by releasing a music video, “Worthy”- an original composition by its director, in collaboration with national recording artist/producer, Sean Scales. The Ensemble is currently working on a single with a pending release in 2025.
