Here are some organizations that poll or survey the public to learn more about what the public is thinking about a wide variety of topics.  

Gallup - U.S. and North American polls related to social issues, politics, economics, healthcare and more.

Pew Research Center - Nonpartisan fact tank conducts public opinion polling, demographic research, media content analysis and other empirical social science research. Pew Research does not take policy positions. It is a subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts.

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs - Independent, non-partisan organization.

NORC at the University of Chicago (formerly the National Opinion Research Center), General Social Survey (GSS) - Collaborates with government agencies, foundations, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to develop knowledge that supports evidence-based decisions.

PollingReport.com - Lists stats from a variety of polls from different sources.

Quinnipiac University Poll - The independent Quinnipiac University Poll regularly surveys residents in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and nationwide about political races, state and national elections, and issues of public concern, such as schools, taxes, transportation, municipal services and the environment.
