Perry Miller's classic one-volume anthology of Puritan writings recreates the world of seventeenth-century New England through a judicious selection of tracts, journals, sermons, and poetry by the major Puritan writers: William Bradford, Cotton Mather, John Winthrop, Thomas Hooker, Anne Bradstreet, Michael Wigglesworth, and Edward Taylor among them.
